Champa Flower by Rabindranath Tagore is a lyrical book

Poems by Rabindranath Tagore always amuse me. “Cloud and Waves”, “Fireflies”, “Homecoming”... You name it. It is so fascinating to see how he leaves the reader with a smile on their face with lots of thoughts in their mind.

'Champa Flower' is a lyrical tale of a boy who imagines himself as a Champa flower. He asks his mother if she would be able to identify him when he does different things like a flower.

One of the stanza goes like:

"When after your bath,

with wet hair spread on your shoulders,

you walked through the shadow of the champa tree to the little court where you say your prayers,

you would notice the scent of the flower, but not know that it came from me."

This short poem by Gurudev highlights the vivid imaginative power of kids and a beautiful bond between a mother and her kid. Parallelly, we also get a peek into the daily routine of women in the village. With gorgeous illustrations, the imagination of a kid, the poem looks live on paper.

Who am I to not recommend this? 🙈
