His Holiness The Fourteenth Dalai Lama: An Illustrated Biography by Tenzin Geyche Tethong - A Review

What do you think about knowing the journeys of people through books?

I love reading memoirs. Not that I aim to achieve big things like the people I read about but some little packs of inspiration help. What I am most interested in is the part when they were not the person who they are today. That's the most important part of any (auto)biography for me.

I have only heard about the Dalai Lama in papers and never in my life, I attempted to know anything. One of the reasons being I am not spiritually inclined. But when I read this biography, I realized how we misperceive people.

The book is called His Holiness The Fourteenth Dalai Lama: An Illustrated Biography by Tenzin Geyche Tethong. The author has been a close companion of Dalai Lama so most of the events are from his encounters. With so many unseen pictures, this book takes us on a journey through beautiful memories of the author and his holiness in a very personal manner.

In our struggle for freedom, truth is the only weapon we posses. - Dalai Lama

Not all of us aware of how a Tenzin Gyatso received the title 14th Dalai Lama. This biography can be a trusted source to know all about him as the author has served in the Holiness’ Private Office for four decades. Also, Dalai Lama's brother has been a part of this project. Though the book is big, it comes with a lot of pictures and illustrations and beautifully captures the cultural effects of places mentioned. That keeps you engrossed.

I don’t have much to say about this book, but if I have to describe it in a word, it’s magnificent. The book reflects everything that today's world needs - Peace, kindness, compassion and many more learnings.

When we meet real tragedy in life, we can react in two ways - either by losing hope and falling into self destructive habits, or by using this challenge to find our inner strength.
